Grimoire stores every note as a plain Markdown file on your own machine — no proprietary database, no cloud dependency, no lock-in.

A vault is just a folder. Open any folder of .md files and Grimoire indexes it instantly; your existing notes from other Markdown apps come along with no import step. Because the files are yours and stay in place, every other tool you use — git, Spotlight, backups, scripts — keeps working.

Grimoire works fully offline. No account, sign-up, or internet connection is required to write.

Wikilinks & Backlinks

Link any note to any other with the common [[wikilink]] syntax. Every link is tracked in both directions.

Type [[ and Grimoire autocompletes note names as you write. The backlinks panel shows every note that references the one you're reading, so ideas resurface in context instead of being buried in folders.

Backlinks update live as you write — rename or link a note and every connection follows.

Full-Text Search

Search your entire vault instantly — by content, filename, tag, or wikilink reference.

The search index covers every word of every note, so a half-remembered phrase is enough to find the note it lives in. Results appear as you type.

Knowledge Graph

See your vault as a living map of connected ideas.

The graph view draws every note as a node and every wikilink as an edge. Clusters form naturally around the topics you think about most — a picture of your thinking that no folder tree can show.

Split Panes & Tabs

Keep your working set open: multiple tabs, side-by-side panes, and live preview.

Work on two notes at once, or open a rendered Markdown preview next to your editor. Each tab keeps its own cursor position and scroll state, so switching context costs nothing.

AI Integration via MCP

Optional Cloud Sync

Grimoire Pro syncs your vault across devices — but only if you turn it on.

Sync is a paid, opt-in service ($5/month or $48/year). Files are transmitted over HTTPS and stored solely to sync them to your other devices — never read, analyzed, or shared. Version history lets you restore earlier drafts. Without Sync, nothing ever leaves your machine. See pricing →
